Dreams

by Langston Hughes

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

"Madame Grès - Sculptural Fashion" exhibition

Visit the "Madame Grès - Sculptural Fashion" exhibition

at MOMU Antwerp until 10/02/2013 and see some of the archive designs inspired by this lady.

From Wednesday, September 12, 2012 to Sunday, February 10, 2013 the exhibition presents the MoMu Madame Gres. Sculptural Fashion , a retrospective of the work of the Parisian couturier Madame Grès (1903-1993).

Madame Grès felt same sculptor as a fashion designer: "I was happy to become a sculptor. Working with stone or fabric is the same for me. "
She draped and tucked the fabric directly on the model without much artifice or use of scissors and needle, making them even as the pioneer of the seamless garment known. In her career she walked fifty different style periods: from Hellenistic, draped evening dresses to modern, minimalist daywear and stylish beachwear, still in its specific style: sober, timeless, sculptural and ultra feminine.

The scenography of the exhibition will reflect the conceptual sculptural fashion of Madame Grès. There is collaboration with the Belgian artist Renato Nicolodi that new elements and installations designed for the exhibition spaces at MoMu and existing work will show. His archetypal, minimalist and classical inspired works form a fascinating interplay of Madame Grès' oeuvre.

MoMu welcomes and reworked the retrospective Madame Grès of the Musée Galliera, musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris, in 2011 at the Musée Bourdelle in Paris ran. The exhibition unites silhouettes of Madame Grès largely from the collections Galliera come, and from private collections.
